Jazz dance originates from the vernacular dances of Africans who were brought to the Americas on slave ships. The dance form developed alongside jazz music in New Orleans in the early 1900s, later turning into a theatre art between the 1930s and 1960s. The influence of highly trained classical and modern dancers experimenting with the jazz genre can be seen in the technique of jazz today.
Our jazz classes, held for both children and adults follow the basic structure of a good class; a warm-up which includes strengthening, stretching, isolations, diagonal exercises and turns, and the rehearsal of a routine.
